india
well, as the picture i hope to upload shows - in india (and many other regions throughout the world) they use "squatty pottys" wherein, it's like you're in the woods going in a little hole in the ground, but rather, it's a nice porcelain hole... in a tile floor. you pull your pants to your ankles, squat like a small child looking at rocks, and just enjoy the experience.
it might sound crazy and completely un-developed, but i believe it's far healthier for your colon and will help prevent hemorrhoids. and, as you can see, there are convenient foot grips to help prevent the unfortunate slip.
as far as the "clean up" there's no toilet paper, but there is a conveniently located water spout to wet your left hand, which is what is used for wiping, and a soap dish fastened to the wall, in case you had some soap.
also, the double-bucket amenity seen in the picture is the preferred method for showering in the region, so that's convenient. and, the floor is angled in such a way that any extra water that drips from the faucet helps send the excrement to wherever excrement goes these days - as there's no flush feature beyond gravity.
this particular lavatory was pleasantly lit from a window on one wall, there wasn't soap or a mirror available, there were only a few bugs, and overall i'd say it was quite enjoyable. i recommend these type of "loos" to everyone.
